Insect bites: Generally speaking there is no need to see a physician for most insect bites.  However if there is significant pain at the site or if you start experiencing other body aches/muscle spasms, or if the bite itself starts to ooze or if the bruising starts getting really dark then i would definitely get it checked out.

can an insect bite cause a bruise? its a flesh coloured circle with what looks like a puncture mark surrounded by bruise my pharmacist says no? im now worried its a bruise with no trauma so leukaemia? no other symptoms apart from aching muscles i?

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. Insect bites  can result in a bruise, however, it would more important to rule out tick bite that may transmit Lyme disease. It would be prudent to see a doctor.

Is it infected?: Without physically examining your insect bite, there is only a medical guess as to what is triggering the weeping. Is it infected? This would be the 1st concern--addressing the infection is the only solution here. If the weeping is watery clear, then perhaps this is more of an allergic-type reaction that might respond to oral antihistamines such as allegra (fexofenadine). Call md if infected or not better soon.

Yes, but: You really shouldn't. You run the risk of prematurely aging your skin as well as increased risk of skin cancers.

Wrong Treatments ?: The real question is what not to do that slows down healing. Avoid using alcohol, peroxide, hibiclens, betadine, and bleach solutions. Inflammation ( red, hot, swollen, tender) is important to healing  so anti-inflammatories (motrin, advil) are bad. Cover the area with a clean dressing changed every other day  and protected from trauma.  Antibiotics do not help healing unless it is truly infected.

Depends on bite: There are some insect bites that can cause necrosis (basically death of flesh). The most common example is the brown recluse spider.

It will heal.: My father used to say, "bite it back!" which wasn't particularly helpful. If it's only one bite, leave it alone, it will heal. If it gets red and sore, it might be getting infected; see your doctor.

Not all: You don't always see a "head" with all insect bites, but usually you'll see something (small bump, punctate lesion, etc) in the middle of the area of redness or inflammation.
