SEE A DOCOTER: you had a significant injury since you have swelling and bleeding that cause the discoloration .it is in your foot because of gravity my advise see a doctor same time apply ice on the injured area that might slow down the bleeding and the bruises good luck

Dead tissue: If the tissue were dead, you would be in pain right now.  An abscess would have formed and the site would be red, inflamed, and very painful.  If you don't have any of these, doubtful of dead tissue.

Depends: It depends on where the lump is. If it is near the top of your shin along the midline where the patellar tendon inserts on the tibia, (go ahead and Google this) it is probably Osgood Schlatter and nothing to worry about. If it is in another location, you should see your family doctor or an orthopedist to order a set of X-rays that can evaluate the lump.

:  Fracture would be a serious problem - especially a compound, open fracture. However, without any context, it would be difficult to say what you could reasonably be at risk for.

Eval by Sports MD: If you are training for the big apple event you have precious little time. You should be seen expeditiously by an orthopaedic surgeon who handles runners' injuries regularly. A true stress fracture needs to be ruled out via xray and/or mri. Aggressive nonoperative management on your timeline may mean a cam walker/boot for a week for real impact stress releif, new running shoes, nsaids, etc.
