Hernia causes: The most common causes of hernia are exertion and hereditary reasons.  
Hernias are less common in women than in men.  I would be skeptical that intercourse would result in a hernia.

No: Vigorous sexual actvity could aggravate a preexisting hernia but i doubt it would cause one.  I have been doing hernia surgery since 1970 and no one has yet to claim that is how the hernia occurred.

Surgeon's best : The best option for repair is the one the surgeon has the most experience and expertise with, and does the best. Not too many options available for pediatric hernias anyway. She should be fine.

Yes safe: Inguinal hernia relate to the intestine not the ovaries and tubes. The procedure is th put the intestine back into the abdomen safely. It does not involve handling the ovaries or tubes usually.

A : A bulge in your abdominal wall that comes out when you cough or sit up and then goes back down when you lay down sounds very concerning for a hernia.  You need to see a general surgeon and have them look at it and see what they think.  The ultrasound is ok if you've already been scheduled, but it isn't always going to be accurate in diagnosing a hernia.  Even if the u/s comes back saying that a hernia isn't seen, it doesn't mean you don't have one.  Hernias are one of the most common conditions that a surgeon sees and most people still think that a physical exam done by a surgeon is the best way to diagnose whether or not you have a hernia.

Untreated: If you mean an untreated inguinal (groin) hernia. Complications of a hernia can be pain, hernia enlargement, low risks of bowel obstruction, hernia incarceration or strangulation resulting in dead bowel... Most inguinal hernias do not get complications.

Bulge & Discomfort: The most consistent symptom of an inguinal (groin) hernia is the presence of a bulge.  This may be constant but often enlarges with activity and may seem to go away after laying down. While hernias may cause pain, they usually cause subtle discomfort (also) worsened with activity.  This pain may extend into the inner thigh due to nerve irritation.

Physical exam: By an experienced Surgeon. If there is any doubts an MRI is confirmatory in most cases
