is septoplasty required in case of mild dns. i also have mild infection in bilateral maxillary sinuses. doctor also suggested fess.

Depends on symptoms: A mild deviation of the septum usually does not cause problems. The septoplasty would be indicated for certain nasal symtoms like persistent obstruction, runny nose, etc.  The fact that you are aware of maxillary sinus infection suggests that a ct scan has been performed. If there is mild disease and your symptoms are minor, ask your doctor if further medical treatment is an option.

See below: It is not a good idea to operate on an infected site. It is likely to disseminate the infection. Please consult your doctor to see if you need a different antibiotic.

Not important: The septum effects breathing and in some cases can occlude areas in the nasal cavity where the sinuses drain. This latter case may contribute to chronic sinusitis- however the septum has very little influence on sinus infection and no role in ear infection.

Obstructed nose: Nasal valve collapse ca be caused by deviated septum or other anatomical problems with your nose. It is best treated with other procedures at the same time as septoplasty or septorhinoplasty as cartilage grafts from the septum are commonly used to treat the valve. See an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon for treatment options.

Persisted deviation: If the primary reason for septoplasty was deviated septum, or correction of collapsed septum, the deformity may have persisted or recurred.It could be a chronic septal hematoma or may be internal valve problem.Your best course is to go back to your original surgeon for help, or fiind another one who can help you.

my ent doctor said that septoplasty and turbinate reduction could indirectly reduce the frequency of my ear infections.  does this make sense?

Possibly: A structural anomaly that makes you more prone to upper airway infections can lead to more frequent middle ear disease.Mucous trapping and impeded drainage allows buildup of more food for germs. The more germs hang around, the more places the germs eventually infect. They routinely put ear tubes in cleft palate kids at their first repair because their head structure is so prone to ear infecti.

can allergic rhinitis coupled with sev deviated septum lead to chronic sinus infections? should i do septoplasy before starting allergy shots?

Accepted Answer

Possible but: Nasoseptal deviation may occasionally lead to sinusitis but the more common cause is from nasal congestion leading to obstruction of sinus drainage.  If the septal deviation is severe, then it is ok to go ahead with it. I usually recommend people to get a 2nd opinion before proceeding with surgery since some nasoseptal deviation is present in everyone and only the severe ones should have surgery.

i'm constantly getting sinus infections and they're dreadful. antibiotics do not fix my problem, should i see a ent to consider septoplasty?

Yes: If  you are getting diagnosed with ear infections all the time then it is time to see the ENT and Allergist to find out what is going on and why

Accepted Answer

Accutane and Scars: Accutane can cause bad healing for up to six months after you start taking it.  Your nose will take at least 6 weeks to heal and possibly 12 weeks. It is important to let your nose heal completely or you could get hypertrophic scarring
