24 hrs ago i started cephalexin 10ml 3x a day (liquid) for infected sebaceous cyst on my breast. its been making me nauseous & sour stomach. ive taken this exact med before for other things & it never caused nausea until now.. how to stop the nausea?

Another cause?: As you have experienced before, cephalexin usually doesn't cause such symptoms. Most people tolerate it very well. So maybe it's not the cause? Try taking it with food, which will not interfere with absorption or effectiveness. Or ask your doctor or pharmacist about a different formulation, like capsules. Why are you taking the liquid form anyway?

can an infected sebaceous cyst drain on its own ? i have one on my chest but when i touch the skin now, i cannot feel any bump underneath anymore.

Self healing: These occur when glands in our skin get blocked and what they secrete collects and causes pressure. Immediate response is inflammation (red, hot, tender swelling). The the body increases blood flow to the injury to bring healing factors to the area and also the veins expand to carry bad stuff away. Avoid picking/squeezing lets nature take its course. Yours probably simply resolved not drained.

i am including more details but have a infected  sebaceous cyst on my middle back. they drained/remove the cyst. they said it was infected. i started amoxicillin. when should i expect improvement in appearance such as redness etc? i emailed pcp too?

Infected cyst: This depends on how fast you heal in general so remember what happened with prior surgeries.  Should be getting less red in a day or so. I would try some time lapse photography to document the time frame in you. You will have better idea for you. Everyone is different. Tome will tell.

Not too long...: If infected, it should be treated with incision to drain and oral antibiotics. Sometimes infection in a cyst will kill the cells in the cyst wall and it will not recur.

Infected cyst: Only if it spontaneously opens to discharge the sebum materials and pus (purulent exudate). But it could re occur since the cyst lining which are living cells can re accumulate. Best to seek surgical excision..

Excision: The best is a surgical excision cyst and capsule, antibiotic if needed.

Sebaceous cyst: Infected cysts are best treated with drainage and good wound care (soap and h2o). Takes about 2 weeks to heal.  Would suggest aggressive scrubbing and, generally, keep it clean. In this case the treatment might be better than the disease. Hope it's just a cyst. ;).

Will need treatment: The cyst will not go away on its own and will occasionally flare up and cause you pain and discomfort, even if you are able to treat it successfully for the time being with antibiotics. It will be much better to cool it off with antibiotics and then have your plastic surgeon remove it entirely. The surgeon must remove the entire capsule with it to avoid a recurrence.
