Not harmful: Babies do shudder at times and that is normal. Some have repeated shuddering episodes, and may have the infant shudder syndrome. Even though it may appear frightening, infants who have seen experts have no abnormal findings and eventually grow out of it. INFANTILE SPASMS:: When combined with specific eeg changes of hypsarhythmia- is called west syndrome. 2 types: cryptogenic: when no cause found, and symptomatic: due to prenatal / natal(during delivery) / postnatal insult/injury. Some genetic linkage has been recently found, x-linked inheritance is seen, some familial cases are found.

: I wouldn't attribute your thought obsessions' to EDS. This is a connective tissue disorder where some of the underlying tissues are not bound as strongly to other layers. There is a tendency toward looser skin, but the syndrome does not affect how your brain works.

Medical Student??: If you are a healthcare student being asked to generate a differential diagnosis list for rds you could absolutely include ductal dependent congenital heart diseases. However tof may not be apparent until after the neonatal period  unless there is profound outflow obstruction (like pulmonary atresia).

Irritation: Irritation caused by something unknown to me is the probable cause. Clean and apply vaseline several times per day. If no improvement in 2-3 days, see the pediatrician.

Sorry for the issues: Both these diagnoses are worrisome and promise a lifetime of hardships for the child and family. I have seen DS kids have a full and happy life but those with infantile spasms face a debilitating progression and lack of development. Penile surgery: You would be surprised the cost may vary from doctor to doctor and from hospital to hospital. If you have insurance, they have standard rates they pay for surgical procedures. It may not hurt to start with them. If you don't have insurance, then you will have to consult the doc who will perform that and the hospital it will be done at.
