See a doctor: Aspelone (prednisolone) is only available by prescription in the united states and for good reason. This is a powerful steroid and if used incorrectly can be very dangerous for an infant. Prospan, at best will do nothing for your baby. There's no such thing as an expectorant (despite manufacturer claims) and pediatricians generally frown upon use of any OTC product in infants. Take baby to her doc

i have barretts. cough a lot when i get up - sometimes phlegm but no blood, now on omeprazole. respiratory and ent investigations all ok but chronic cough in the morning continues. can you suggest possible cough and how dangerous is the cough?

Rule out: Rule out bronchospasm and aspiration. An Ba Swallow test is suggested.  Sleep with a 30 degree elevation of the head of the bed.

will amoxicillin work for an upper respiratory infection? persistent cough over a week now with clear phlegm and wheezing. take pro-air as needed.

Probably not: Upper respiratory infections are Viral in nature. It is unlikely that amoxicillin would help, since that treats bacterial infections only.  I would be concerned that you have asthma that is not properly treated. I would check with doctor about more pro-air or an inhaled steroid. If not improving consider getting a chest x-ray to rule out pneumonia.

AURI: Suction nasal secretion with bulb syringe. No cough rx at this age. Give tylenol (acetaminophen) for fever. Check with md when not feeding and not sure of his auri problem.

See below: Patience . Using a vaporizer, the saline nose drops and elevation of the baby while laying down will help.But the baby ultimately has to heal themselves.

is it safe to do infrared physiotherapy for cough with phlegm often? how many times would you recommend? this is for baby 18 mos.

Not suggested: I would not suggest using this method of physiotherapy for your baby. 
If there is nasal congestion and a wet cough, most are due to viral infections and resolve within 10 days. Infants tend to swallow the mucus, and using baby nasal saline with gentle irrigation can reduce post nasal drip.
If there is wheezing or an unusual sound, fever, vomiting, please see your PCP.

my baby has silent reflux he has 6ml a day of losec (omeprazole) his symptoms are worse during the night with cough/phlegm is it best to give him his med befor bed?

Losec (omeprazole): You can give a dose of losec (omeprazole) before bedtime but make sure he is sleeping on an elevated mattress to keep reflux at a minimum.

See his doctor: this is most probably upper airways inflammation and causing reactive airways disease, meaning affecting the lower airways (passages) causing the dry cough. His pediatrician may prescribe some inhaled medications to help open up his airways and reduce the cough, also he may have reflux, common, if he has excessive wet burps, so practice reflux precautions, and clear his nose with saline for now

Typical: It means his reflux is still not well controlled, you need to share this information with his treating physician to adjust the treatment.
