Retracted TM: Hello, a retracted eardrum can be a challange to treat both medically and surgically. Steroids, nasal sprays, air insufflation may all help to equalize the pressure across the tympanic membrane but in patients who fail this therapy may require tube placement. A t-tube will stay in the tm longer than most other tubes and fix the problem. The incision in the right hands shouldn't be a problem.

Perforated eardrum : Many eardrum perforations heal on their own and in cases where they do not there is a surgical procedure to transfer tissue to patch the tympanic membrane. It would be acceptable to use headphones and answer phone calls. I would however be cautious in getting water in the ear or using q-tips as this could allow passage of material past the tympanic membrane into the middle ear. I recommend that you see an ENT for further evaluation.

: Ear drum perforations usually heal with the resolution of infection. If your hearing in the affected ear is normal, using headphone will not hurt. Do keep the sound level at the lowest loudness compatible with your job. If there is any discharge in the ear, it would, be prudent to see your doctor.

Similar surgery: The t tube is the only significant variable as the incision is nearly identical. The tube is longer and after insertion the top forms a t which anchors the tube in a stronger way and resists expulsion common to the simple grommets.

Otitis media: Otitis media is ear fluid behind the ear drum. If it is pushed out, it is called "bulging". If the fluid is yellow, 75 to 85% of the time there will be bacteria there. If there is fever, pain and certainly under 2 years of age when the immune system is not great, it should be treated with antibiotics. If patient is older and no pain, may want to wait to see if body will cure it on its own.

Dysplastic  Abnormal: A dysplastic mole is not cancerous, but shows some changes that are not completely normal. Re-excision may be recommended if the margins are not clear, if they are very close or a larger sample is needed to be certain no additional treatment is needed.
