Indication: Antipsychotics are used off-label for children. Risperdal is an atypical antipsychotic which has been shown to help with aggression.  Please discuss with a child psychiatrist. These are big gun medications, can be very effective, but would only use if clearly indicated.

What do you mean?: Prescribed medications have been shown to decrease some forms of impulse-control problems. Drug use or abuse (as in without a prescription) has not been scientifically demonstrated to help impulse control. It's not recommended.

See a specialist.: You should see a therapist for cognitive-behavioral therapy. Counseling ; group therapy has been used in people who suffer from pathological gambling. See a psychiatrist for med tx. Naltrexone is a medicine that has been used to decrease the reward and endogenous opiate release in some people who cut or injure themselves. Topamax (topiramate) can help reduce cravings for drugs.

Count to 10: and make arrangements to work with a cognitive behavioral therapist to learn techniques to redirect your impulses. Exercise.  Do not carry cash with you.  When in a store, tell yourself you will buy "it" tomorrow when you have the impulse to buy something. It may seem silly but it helps to sit on your hands to keep from interrupting others. When you are about to say something, say hmmm. first.

Cognitive behavioral therapy, SSRI medications are often helpful, as are mutual support groups such as GA.

Behavioral disorders refer to a broader spectrum of mental and or emotional disorders, such as psychotic disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, attention disorders, etc.
