Short forum,: Long answer required.  There are many aspects to being "social".  The most important is not to talk about yourself unless asked.  People love to talk about themselves so give them the opportunity and ask them.

You must live it..: Some are born extroverts, some introverts, and some in between. Some are naturals at it, others must learn/practice. You can read, get lectured/spoken to, showed videos etc..But none = your own practice. Be in the crowd, be part of it, live it, socialize it. The more u do, the more comfortable you get, but don't forget to take time and reflect and see yourself. Consult therapist. Good luck.

Not necessarily.: Loosing weight can increase your self esteem, but if your social skills aren't that good, you still need to practice them.  Like any other skill, it takes work to get good at this.  Dale carnegie courses or toastmasters can help as could working with a therapist in your area.

STOP IT.: Embarrassing your son in public, as his mother, is probably one of the most damaging thing you can do to your son's self-esteem.  Why would you want to do that.  You must seek help to get to the bottom of it, and change.  We are not simply talking social skills here, it's deeper than that.  Do you want your son to have low self esteem and be bullied or made fun of all his life.  I'm pissed.

Get off of facebook: And out of the house.  Social skills must be practiced routinely, like all other skills.  Dale carnegie courses and toastmasters could be helpful as could working with a therapist in your area.
