ALLERGIC REACTION: you may be having an allergic reaction to the Azithromycin. You need to be examined promptly and have labs checked (Especially Eosinophil level) I normally would treat with a prednisone taper over 8 days. If symptoms worsen and you have difficulty breathing go to nearest ER.

why loperamide(imodium) is prescripted for traveler's diarrhea while this disease might be infectious which might complicate it by anti motility drug?

We don't: you are right--we don't use anti motility drugs for infectious diarhoea.it should be allowed to run its course.if needed we use peptobismol--a bismuth salt for binding.

i have gerd and hiatal hernia.  i take protonix. the cancer drug i take causes diarrhea. when i get it and take an imodium it immediately affects my upper digestion. i get a burning stomach, nausea and indigestion. how do i stop this problem?

: You may ask your doctor a different medication for diarrhea such as Lomotil.

Yes: Pepto-bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) and Imodium (loperamide) have no interactions.  They can be taken together.

Yes: In general, it is safe to use it, although if you are having chronic problems and find yourself using it for a prolonged time, be sure to discuss it with your GI doc.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Diarrhea is a common side effect of having your gallbladder removed.  The fluid that is usually stored in the gallbladder can enter the bowel as bile acids and stimulate secretion of fluid resulting in diarrhea.  Common treatments include Cholestyramine (binds the bile acids) or Imodium (loperamide) (slows down the bowel allowing for reabsorption of fluid).

Diarrhea : Please see your physician. You may get dehydrated. Most likely have infectious colitis

Colonoscopy: with biopsies plus stool culture and stool analysis for ova and parasites. Needs full workup for IBS/ulcerative colitis and Chron's.

Imodium (loperamide): I would question the real need for Imodium (loperamide) on a daily basis here. If your gastroenterologist is following you for ibs diarrhea-type, then this may be part of the therapy plan. But i would need more context to provide more detailed direction/recommendations. Seeing a licensed gastroenterologist (if you're not already) is recommended.

Yes, consult doctor: For 2 to 5 years of age use the liquid formulation. See your pediatrician!
