Foot discomfort: They won't "mess up your life" but they can cause foot discomfort depending on their size and position. They can certainly make wearing certain types of shoes uncomfortable. Diabetics, however, should have corns and callouses removed or trimmed to prevent further problems.

Variable: The long term effects are similar to the short term effects if the corns are not treated. This includes potential for pain due to friction/rubbing of corn, including when wearing tight fitting socks or shoes, and redness and swelling around the corn. Other things to watch for are secondary infection, breakdown of the skin at site of corn (ulcer) and formation of a blisters (due to friction).

Yes indeed: Insurance covers surgical correction of the problem...If treated conservatively for temporary relief insurance will usually not cover it and call it routine care..Get it fixed...You will be glad you did...

No: Generally speaking, pvera dose not imapct a persons long term survival, ie when comparing a group of patients with pv to a group without, survial rates are the same.  However, pv and other myeloproliferative disorders are uncommon in your age group and i would be skeptical of the diagnosis.

Do not know: Without knowing whether it produced neurologic changes, whether it was unilateral or bilateral, whether other intracranial sinuses were also involved, what the underlying cause and the bacterial etiology it is difficult to predict long-term effects.

Sometimes painful: There are different types of corns. A hard corn is  firm and thick. It may have a soft yellow ring with a gray center. A soft corn looks can look like an open sore. Corns may be asymptomatic, but they can cause pain while you are walking or wearing shoes, and they may make it hard for your feet to fit in your shoes. Pressing or squeezing the corn may also cause pain.

Many ways: Corns can be trimmed and padded. Toe splints can be used to stop the toes from rubibng each other or on the top of the shoes.
Surgery can also be performed to remove the underlying problem which is usually a deformity of the toe or a bone spur.
