First : First of all my congratulations to you for going forward with the hip graft.  This is the best source of large amounts of bone for jaw reconstruction, and in my experience we get the best results harvesting the bone from the hip.  You are going to be limping for about three weeks at which time the stitches will be out of your hip and your mouth.  I am actually amazed by how uneventful these recovery times are.  The greatest inconvenience is not being able to shower or get the wound on the hip wet.

Varies: Every surgeon and every patient are slightly different, but a general rule of thumb would be 3-6 weeks nwb, 6-10 total weeks in a cast or boot...As long as it all goes well.

OK: The discomfort is not too bad which can last for a few days.   It really depends on the size of the bone graft.  Of course the larger the bone graft, the longer the recovery and healing time will be.   However, patients have various threshold pain levels.    Ask your doctor a little bit about the type and size of bone graft.

Ask your surgeon: So many variables to consider based on your question and description of events. The best thing I would recommend is to talk to your surgeon. She or he will have the best knowledge about what they found.

: I was told to wait till gums had healed to make certain bone was OK under neath. Also may not even need an implant if you can chew OK.  Save some big bucks

These : These are very specific questions, good questions but the best answer comes form the surgeon who is going to operate on you.
Typically "small cut" (whatever that means may be different for different cases, and going home typically depends upon how you feel, genral health, length of surgery etc....Talk to your doctor 
pick up the phone and call the office of where your surgery is being done.

Expert! Please reply: I am not an expert. I hope one replies - i did, however, have dental implant following bone graft. There was quite a long wait in order for bone to stabilize. It was very successful and there has been no problem now for 8 years. Ask for other opinions in your area, my information may be out of date but i think you are right to be concerned.
