Missed period: First, repeat a pregnancy test.  If still negative its likely she had a skip ovulation cycle or annovulatory cycle and this will cause the period to skip.  Relatively common after age 35 and the longer you go without the period the more likely you will bleed heavily.  A gynecologist can easily address this.

If you missed one: period, it may be b/c of an imbalance between the 2 major hormones that affect the uterine lining.  At some point this lining starts shedding on its own which can cause bleeding without the associated cramping etc. that occur with a normal period.   If the bleeding is heavy &amp; lasts a long time, or is repetitive, you should be checked out.  Otherwise, no worries.  Dr. Anne

Cramping: Cramping is a sign of menstruation, but it is also a sign of infection.  Urinary tract infections are a common experience and cramping is a common symptom of this.

Take preg test: Are you currently using any form of birth control? If you're not, and there is a chance you may be pregnant, you should take a pregnancy test to see if this is the cause of your symptoms. If you have recently started using some sort of birth control (or are using it to skip a period), these symptoms can be very common. You may also want to be evaluated for other menstrual disorders by your doctori.

Birth control pills: Yes - if you become pregnant while using the pill, most women will still miss their period/withdrawal bleed. If you are taking the placebo pills and not getting a period, you should take a pregnancy test.

AMENORRHEA: UNLIKELY TO BE PREGNANT AMENORRHEA or absence of YOUR period demands prompt evaluation. You need an exam/Labs(ESPECIALLY THYROID &amp; HORMONAL STUDIES) and a PELVIC EXAM with PAP SMEAR. Depending on the results a Pelvic Ultrasound may be warranted.

Period: Your period can be delayed for multiple reasons. Psychological (stress), Endocrine (thyroid), weight changes (anorexia), activity (too much running).  If you are feeling well otherwise, you would be OK to give this some time to see if your cycle comes on . If the problem persists talk to your provider.

Pregnancy test?: Irregular periods are one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections &amp;  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.
