This is normal: Many women have light cycles.  If you are trying to achieve pregnancy and have not been successful, see your doctor to be sure you are ovulating and that there are no problems.

Period or trauma: She could be having her menstrual period. However if she is on oral contraceptives and does not think that it is her menstrual period and also has pain then she needs to see a gynaecologist to rule out trauma V/S other issues.

No worries: Birth control pills (BCPs) have higher progesterone effect than estrogen.  Not only do they prevent women from ovulating but they also prevent the uterine lining from building. Many women will experience irregular bleeding (#1 reason for discontinuing BCPs) for the first 2-3 month. It takes time for the body to adjust to the hormones. The low estrogen pills (20mcg) definitely have irregular bleed

Suggests tissue dmg: The spotting and pain suggest some tissue injury.It may be a minor abraision that would heal with simple tub soaks/clear water douching or you may have introduced germs that could trigger a vaginitis.

Hard to guess, but: A urine pregnancy test, done correctly, gives a reliable result 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred), or 1 week after missing a period. If done sooner, a positive result is likely real, but a negative result may be due to testing too soon, and thus lead to a repeat test. If a woman gets her normal regular period, then she is not pregnant, and a test is not needed.

Just a variation: Not every period will be the same.  It is "normal" for periods to occasionally be heavier, lighter, earlier or later.  This can result from stress, illness, medications.  Keep a diary for the next 2-3 months of any menstrual symptoms you have.  If things go back to regular, no worries.  If not, see a GYN.

Spotting post period: Could be variation,could be infection, vaginitis( yeast, mycoplasma,/ureoplasma). If you are sexually active could also be related to pregnancy (rarely you can have a period when pregnant especially in the first month).Check urine  blood HCG, Follow up with doctor/urgent care
