CAN BE.....: Up to 75 mg 2 tab can be given usually depending on the diagnosis; e.g. For gastro esophageal reflux disease (gerd)  and erosive esophagitis, dose is double of the usual. Anyways, better talk to her pediatrician or GI doc if you want to continue this dose longer.

I wouldn't.: Over the counter cough and cold medicines have no proven benefit and many side effects.  See http://tinyurl.com/osmaxzo  Also, if your cold symptoms started after taking the Zantac, (ranitidine) and you have never had it before, I would stop it for now, to be sure that did not play a role in your new symptoms. You can safely use liquid antacids or tablet antacids (like calcium carbonate) for stomach upset.

Evaluate diet such as spicy/fatty foods, citrus fruits, caffeine, smoking, alcohol. Some of these can be modified. If persists would speak to your doctor.
