Common, not normal: Stool retention is an unfortunate pattern that a number of kids develop.Aggravated by diet, unwillingness to come in from play when nature calls, unwillingness to go at school all add up.The pattern self perpetuates. Increasing fiber in the diet, avoiding constipating foods, increasing fluid intake can help as will daily scheduled emptying.A workup at your doc is a good starting point for recovery.

Don't worry: Unless the number of BM's have greatly increased and she is acting fussy and not eating well. You didn't mention if she is breastfed, and if that is the case , it's possible that some change in your diet is responsible. Watch for the next few days, and in most cases these changes resolve without an explanation. See your doctor if not resolving

i had a colonoscopy yesterday and was told i should poop in 2 days..it seems every time i eat or drink i have to poop now.  is this normal?

Yes: Yes, it can be normal because of the fluid you had to drink before the colonoscopy.  This fluid cleans the inside of your colon by causing loose bowel movements.  It sounds like you still have some in your colon.  It should work its way out in a couple of days.

can you get constipated from switching from laxative to laxative? i couldn't poop for one day, so i took senna laxatives for two days, took prune juice for three days, still couldn't poop and now i'm trying to take magnesium citrate on my fourth day?

Fiber and water: You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods. Consult this site for fiber foods.

my 2 week old baby cried all night every time she struggles to poop. its been going on forba few days but now its really loud cries with little poop. what should i do?

Gas/discomfort: True constipation in a newborn is not common. A baby feeding breast milk/formula should have soft/liquidy brown/green BM's. If you notice hard, clay like stool/pellet-like stool then take your infant to DR. Otherwise, normal babies may only poop once every few days. The crying may be due to gas. Try burping more frequently. Or change the type of formula. If BF, try eating less veggies or spices.

Liquid stool: Watery or muddy?  Seems like  gastroenteritis. which is  resolving. Probiotic (try to t get one with at least 3 species) may help return to bowel to normal Avoid  dairy for 1-2 days as the diarrhea impacts  intestines and makes  digestion of diary harder. Eat white rice toast. Drink gatorade, keep hydrated  If persists may need antibiotics(zithro 4 camphylobacter). Check H pylori.  f/u/ w/ doc

belly is swollen. i also have not been able to produce any poop and have not felt the need to poop at all. i have passed

Not : Not knowing the reason you had your 10th rib removed or your other medical conditions, the post-operative period is usually characterized by alterations in bowel habits, incisional pain treated with narcotic analgesia (which worsens the alteration in bowel habits, also known as post-operative ileus).  This can cause abdominal bloating, nausea, cramping and pain. This can be assisted by reducing narcotic use, ambulating and drinking plenty of fluids.  On occasion, an oral laxative or suppository is needed.  However, other factors can also cause swelling, including fluid retention, bleeding, and infection.  These are usually diagnosed by other means, such as swollen legs, drop in blood count, fever and elevated white count.  In addition, the latter three symptoms are usually associated with other constitutional symptoms, fatigue, paleness, weakness, dizziness.

stomach pain every two days, but my poop is normal. could this be colon cancer???

Probably not: There are many reasons for stomach pain, or abdominal pain.  many are less serious, gastroenteritis, gas pain.  Some can be more significant like appendicitis.   I would never tell someone that it's impossible for them to have cancer, however, I'll tell you this.  It is highly unlikely at your age that this would be cancer.  I would advise seeing  a doctor if it continues or gets worse.
