hello its been a while that i have had bladder and kidney pain today i passed a kidney stone at work should i visit a gp is it normal to just pass it?

Kidney: stones should be evaluated with appropriate blood/urine tests which can be made MUCH SIMPLER if you can "catch" one of YOUR stones!!!!

Possible: You might have passed it if you did not restrain the urine  , then bleeding will stop. drink plenty of fluids  Call your urologist , bleeding may be due to some other reason.

Kidney stones: Most people who 'pass' a stone have symptoms and they are often quite severe.
Abdominal pain, flank pain, urinary frequency and sometimes burning.
If the stones are very small like grains of sand it is possible no symptoms or very minor burning at most.   All people should be encouraged to drink adequate fluids who are at risk or who have a diagnosis of kidney stones.

Here are some ...: While a kidney stone passing and reaching the very end of the ureter, the patient may alter how s/he urinates and thereby feel some degree of urinary hesitancy. Besides, superimposed infection with cystitis may induce urinary urgency and frequency. Otherwise, kidney stone alone will not affect how you urinate. More? Ask Urologist timely in detail.

Get it analyzed: Color isn't that helpful in determining the composition of a stone. There are several types and the composition is a guide to future prevention.

Yes: Patients with urinary stones are frequently told to strain their urine to catch the passed stone. If that was not possible then the disappearance of the stone previously seen on x-ray or ct in conjunction with clearing of symptomatology would be presumptive evidence of stone passage.

Kidney stones: It may subside in a couple of days but it may come back.  Depending on its size your kidney specialist would advice you the definite treatment such as lithotrypsy.

If : If you have already passed two stones at age 26, you definitely need further work up to avoid or delay passing more stones in the future. While drinking over two liters of fluid per day (enough to keep your urine light yellow or clear) can help, you should consider a metabolic workup. This would include a 24 hour urine stone risk profile and some blood tests. Based on this, your doctor can work with you to either adjust your diet, or prescibe medication that can help reduce the incidence of future stones. In addition, you should undergo imaging such as an ultrasound or ct scan to assess your existing stone burden.

i passed a kidney stone less then a week ago and am still having a dill ache in my side. how long should the ache last?

Kidney stone: Post passage pain could be due to some irritation/inflammation of the ureter caused by trauma from the stone passing through it. Absence of blood in the urine or fever is reassuring, but if pain doesn't resolve or worsens, notify your physician or urologist.
