Prolapse v rectocele: Too often the names are interchanged rectal prolapse and rectocele. The first is prolapse of rectum through the anus, the latter is a bulging of the rectum into the vagina. The former is unlikely to respond to anyting but surgery, the latter may improve some with kegles. Keep stools soft, avoid prolonged sitting on the toilet and straining in order to keep from worsening.

No: The connective tissue fibers that should hold the rectum in place in the pelvis have broken or you would not have prolapse.  No other therapy can replace these. But if the prolpase continues, the sooner you get it confirmed and treated the better the long term result you will have. Long term prolapse can be associated with loss of sphincter muscle tone and hence can cause variable degrees of incontinence.
