Irregular bleeding: Irregular bleeding is one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections &amp;  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.

Even : Even though there is a 1% chance of pregnancy after having your tubes tied, there are more likely causes depending on your age and other symptoms. Reasons for a missed period besides pregnancy are stress, poor diet, extreme exercise, weight loss, hormone imbalance such as with thyroid disorders or polycystic ovarian syndrome and even peri-menopause if you are older. You should take a pregnancy test just to be certain you are not pregnant. If you are pregnant, you do have an increased risk of ectopic pregnancy. Luckily, this can usually be determined by a series of blood tests so you should call your doctor right away if you are pregnant. If you are not pregnant and still not sure why your period has become irregular, you should give your ob/gyn doctor a call. Good luck!

the past two months my period has only been 4 days of brown blood only. no red at all. my periods are normally on time and red. could i be pregnant?

Maybe: If it arrives a bit earlier, is lighter than normal, and has more of a brown color than red, you may be experiencing implantation bleeding which occurs 10 - 14 days after ovulation and indicates that the fertilized embryo is pushing into the uterine tissue, pinkish brown bleeding/ spotting results it could also be  you many have had an anovulatory cycle (no eggs released). If neg. Pg test, see dr.

For many yes: Some women are like clockwork every X days and some vary with weeks to months between cycles.Early hormone research was directed at helping women plan for their cycles, the birth control was a side effect. Although the pill is better known for birth control, many in your situation use it to pace their cycles so they become more manageable/predictable.

have three kids. since my first child, my periods have been heavy the first two days (change pad every 4 -5 hours, and light to spotting for the next 4. before kids periods were scant but was on the pill. does this sound normal?

Heavy Periods: When you were on the pill the pill was lightening your periods. Most birth control methods will do that. Often we offer birth control to help with heavy periods. Consider a Mirena IUD. This dramatically lightens periods and often stops them completely. This is why it is so popular.

i've been on ocella (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) 5 mg for 3 months. first month was great. but now i've had spotting the past two months & not close to my periods. is this normal?

It can happen: You may be having breakthrough bleeding.  If it is not better with your next cycle, consider switching to another birth control pill.  Also, ensure you are taking your pill at the same time each day to lessen the chance of breakthrough bleeding and don't skip pills.

i have been on the yaz medication oral contraceptives and also on oratane due to my facial treatment so i wanted to ask if its normal for me to miss my periods for two months?

BCP ?'s: "Yaz" is a low dose bcp, and does not stimulate a thick lining in the uterus, so during the placebo use (7 days) it is not uncommon for what bleeding may occur to be almost insignificant.  I you have been late starting a new pack of Yaz (i.e., greater than eight days elapsed since the last "active" Yaz pill) pregnancy may be possible: obtain a serum HCG test to be certain.

Normal variation: Menstrual cycles can fluctuate from month to month depending on hormone fluctuation caused by stress, weight loss/gain, exercise, and lack of sleep. It is not usually a concern if this happens once or twice. If your cycles cause increased bleeding for more than 3 months you may want to  talk to you Dr about the situation and have a thorough exam and lab tests.
