i constantly need to take a deep breath to get air in. i had a single chamber leadless pacemaker placed 3 weeks ago, other than that i'm healthy?

Call your doc: If you feel short of breath, call your doctor right away or go to the ER if it is persistent and constant. Respiratory and blood abnormalities can cause this feeling, as can meds. If you have trouble breathing, don't drive yourself but get seen if you don't hear from the doc quickly.

Generally not....: Only a very few very recently produced pacemakers are MRI compatible. Report  the manufacturer and model to your radiology dept and they can determine if it is compatible. The answer will likely be no.

With your card: Just show the security agent your pacemaker wallet card, and they will probably walk you around the detector and perform a hand pat-down.

It's : It's most likely the end of a stitch that was put in under the skin.  Keep it clean and get back in to see your doctor as soon as you can.  You could also put some neosporin or other triple antibiotic gel on it and cover it with a bandage until you see your doctor.

Pacemaker: If your heart has  been too slow as the indication for the pacemaker, you will feel significantly better than with the slow heart rate. If you get the pacemaker as a precaution to protect against something that might happen, you may not feel anything different. The surgical wound will ache for a while but nothing severe.

Yes: Hi. Yes, that is cause for concern. Cough is nonspecific, and can represent diverse problems including pneumonia, asthma, congestive heart failure, or simply a cold. At her age, there could be any number of things wrong. It would be wise to get her to her doctor who knows her medical history and can do appropriate diagnostics. Good luck to her!

Pacemaker: In the or the chest is prepped and the patient receives light sedation. The implant area is numbed with local anesthetic and the pacing wires are introduced and passed under fluoroscopy to the heart, positioned and tested. The device is attached to the leads and placed in a pocket under the skin. The pocket is closed and the patient is monitored before going home.

Pacemaker change: When a pacemaker or defibrillation generator device is changed, typically light sedation is used for comfort, and topical anesthesia is used in the skin above the pocket (like Lidocaine such as used for stitches and dental work).
  As long as the pacemaker/defibrillator wires (leads) can still be used for the new one, a generator change is much quicker than the original implantation.

i know someone that has a pacemaker / defibrillator, and i was wondering if they got shocked would it stop it from working? what will happen if they do get shocked?

Accepted Answer

The : The device will continue to work unless there have been so many shocks which may drain the battery. The battery level can be detected by a simple noninvasive test.
