i have a cut on my hand gardening. what should i do now?

Clean with soap: Clean wound. If you have not had tetanus in over 5 years see your doctor for shot and if swelling develops see doctor for treatment of possible bacterial or even fungal infection.

i have been gardening and maybe pulled out a few nettles wearing gloves.  i now have stinging sensation in the knuckles of my right hand?

Accepted Answer

Ouch!: The pain from touching nettles is severe but brief.  After an hour or so, or less, it hurts much less.  Wear gloves henceforth!  It is a horrible pain., there is nothing like that in my experience.  I have felt it once, and, I hope to never feel it again!  Wash your hands with mild soap of course. Wash anything you touched after touching the nettles, too.

is it possible to contract rabies from a healthy happy looking dog? a pit bull licked my hands (did not bite) and i have a cut on my hand. and now im worried i may have been exposed.

Accepted Answer

NO: There has not been a documented rabies from a domestic dog for about 50 years. This would be an unlikely source of rabies. For completeness keep an eye on the dog for 10 days and if no concerning problems, no problems.

bought a bag at yard sale with spot on it. while cleaning it i noticed it was probably dried blood. i had a cuticle cut on my hand. now im in panic. hcv risk? or am i being irrational? i kept squeezing the sponge before it dawned on me it was blood

No risk, no worry: It takes much more intensive blood exposure than this to transmit HCV or any other blood borne virus. Even if the spot was HIV infected blood, just touching it is no risk. Don't worry about it. In some ways, public health and medical educators have done a poor job in educating people about blood risks, making people think that even minor contact is risky. That's almost never the case.

Plastic surgery: I would consult with a plastic surgeon to see if a revision of the scar would be helpful.

Be seen: You need to be seen.  It sounds like you have an infection.  Maybe a very serious one.  Be seen immediately.

May be infection: We don't know when you had the accident and when the white slit appeared.White specs as you describe it may indicate infection in the wound.Have it checked by your Doctor

Finger swelling: After a laceration may mean an infection, pain with motion. Swelling that seems beyond the cut, the feeling that the finger is bent or can't straighten are some signs that an infection is occurring and that an area of the tendon is involved,  even i'd it is just a local red wound one should seek medical attention as finger infections can spread quickly and affect finger motion long term.

3 years ago i severely cut the palm of my hand, now i have about a dime size bump there. its painful when trying to open things. what can i do?

Could be: Retained foreign body, neuroma, or keloid.  Have a doctor look at it and get x-rays if necessary.

i'm guessing i have tetanus now i washed my hands touched rusty hangers no rust on hands but have cuts possible unhealed on hand no shot. or just no?

No: not a set-up for tetanus infection, better get your shot for any future exposures/wounds, hopefully you won't have any, best wishes
