i have a cavity in my front right tooth. the left had a root canal. will i need novocaine to fill and if so will is sting? i'm a huge dental phobic.

If the tooth is: Vital (alive) and the cavity is big or deep, then the answer us yes.  There are many very potent topical anesthetic a available these days.  Make sure your dentist uses one prior, to make the anesthesia process less uncomfortable.  Hope this helps and thanks for the question.

Not much: Avoid sweets, hot and cold foods.  There are some temporary filling materials at drug stores, but they aren't helpful because the decay has to be removed.  These are more for when someone has lost a filling.

The symptoms you : Describe, suggest that it probably is more than just a simple cavity.  An accurate diagnosis can only be rendered upon you seeing a dentist for an exam and an xray.  Please consider seeing a dentist asap.  Hope this helps.

Fillings: That are minor/small many times do not even need anesthesia. If you require anesthesia ask the doctor to use an anesthetic without Epinephrine so it will not last as long(gen an hr with this type) and though you may feel numb and weird you will not look weird. Talk to your dentist.

Tooth pain?: Sounds like she needs to go back to the dentist and get that tooth/filling checked. In the meantime, ibuprofen for the pain. When drinking fluid, keep it more tepid in temperature.

i have a cavity on the back of my front tooth.the dentist said that he could leave topical anesthesia on for 5 minutes so i won't feel the injection. is it true? i'm scared.

True: Topical anesthesia soaked in a cotton pledget is applied to your gum at the site of the injection.  This penetrates well and the needle usually is not felt.  Your dentist will inject slowly using distraction techniques so that you will hardly feel it.  Don't worry - you will do well.

the short answer to your question is: yes.  The material used for bonding and "white fillings" is the same.
However, i cannot possibly answer the question about your dentist's ability.  Most dentists practice to "make a living".  They want you to be happy, come back for preventive treatment, and refer friends and family.  It is in the dentist's best interest to give you "the best" he/she can do.  However, abilities and skills do differ.  Just like in any other profession, some are better than others.  If you have had a good experience with your dentist before, you have all the reasons to belive that the experience will continue.  If you are not certain, ask your dentist to see photos of his/her work.  Many dentists document their work and will be more than happy to show you thier "portfolio".

Not really: Only a dentist can restore the teeth with fillings. No home remedies I am aware of.
