Maybe: Or maybe an inflamed epidermoid cyst. Or maybe an abscess. Complete drainage is the important thing. Usually antibiotics of any kind are not indicated. If it fails to heal promptly you had best see a DR.

Possible insect bite: An insect bite can remain red and swollen for several days or longer depending on the allergy level of the individual and how much it has been scratched.  Insect bites usually are itchy.  Cold compresses and oral antihistamines help with it.  If the lesion is painful, this may be a cellulitis or bacterial infection, and may need warm compresses or antibiotics.  See your doctor to confirm and Rx.

heard a small squeaky/chirpy sound last afternoon, i don't know the source. i woke up with a tiny red bump on my leg which is irritated, just barely painful. i haven't seen a bat, but i'm concerned i could have been bitten by one and need rabies pep?

: Contact your local health department for guidance. Rabies activity is monitored by regions in the US &amp; they have the data &amp; usually control the supply of PEP. A call to a local ER may also help. Some areas of the US do not have any rabies activity while in others it is.
