Vertigo: Most common cause of vertigo is going to be Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo which is where the connection between your ear and your brain is off, resulting in dizziness, especially with head or eye movement.  There are other causes though too, so I would go see your doctor.

Dizziness: This is  due to multiple factors and depends on the type of sickness you are referring to. In upper respiratory tract infection may be associated with sinus congestion. This in turn may increase the pressure inside the sinus cavity which will be transmitted to your vestibular organ in the inner ear. As part of an inflammatory response your body produces substances that will make you feel dizzy.

Could be a virus (acute layrinthitis) a bacterial infection (sinus, ears, nasal passages), 'benign positional vertigo' adverse medication affect. Aok if rx or goes away within 2wks. . But if goes on longer, very severe, need further tests, like a brain scan (including internal auditory canals).
