Lumps in arm pits: This very common situation means that the patient may have reacted to either bacteria or fungus on his deodorant or something else that has come in contact there. Other possibilities are an allergic reaction to any product used in the under arm.  Most people get better by stopping the exposure for a time. 
If the sores get bigger or warmer or have any abscess he will need to be seen.

Lymph nodes : The lumps under your armpit are most likely lymph nodes. They could be enlarged due to infection or other causes or you could just be feeling them naturally. Lymph nodes could be normal or worrisome. If they are new, seem bigger than normal, hurt when you touch them or any concern on your part then see a doctor for evaluation. Good luck!

Deep or superficial?: If its up in the skin and moveable it is most likely just a skin cyst or pustul.  If it is deeper in the armpit between the muscles it may be an inflamed lymph node or fatty tumor.   These can feel like a grape deep under the skin.  If you are unsure, have an md look at it.  If it persists longer than a couple months or begins to grow have it seen right away -- at your age it is most likely benign.

YES: It is always a good idea to pay special attention to those areas of the body where bacteria tend to grow more easily. Armpits, genitals, beneath breasts and under folds of fat tend to have a higher moisture level and higher levels of bacteria and fungus. Washing them regularly and thoroughly rinsing them will help keep the areas clean and free from infection. Be sure to dry them well after washing

See your doctor: It might not mean much of anything, but darkening skin under the armpits can be a sign for neurofibromatosis. You should see your family practice physician and discuss symptoms.
