Not known: You need to see either a dermatologist or an endocrinologist to find out why you are losing so much hair. There might be a problem with your thyroid or your ferritin level which measures the stores off on iron in your body.

i wash my hair daily with shampoo.i have really dry and rough hair.but if i don't shampoo my hair for just 1 day my hair become really oily and dirty.what type of shampoo should i use and how many times a week should i use?

: You can try Haas henna and placenta conditioner once a week. For daily use try Nexus and neutrogena alternately. Coconut oil or Rosehip oil application night before may resolve your concern. Hope it helps.

See details: Daily washings are more than enough. Use a shampoo free of sulfites. These shampoos are clear and not cloudy.

: It might help with absorption by cleaning off the scalp  but you dont have to.

i have bad dandruff. tried washing my hair with antidandruff shampoo & keeping my hair & scalp moisturised to no avail.  i wash my hair every 2-3 weeks since i keep my hair in protective styles(braids) it feels like a scab when i touch the dandruff?

: The right treatment for the wrong condition is seldom curative. It may be that you really have a different problem like scalp fingus or psoriasis. Without an exam &amp; some testing it is hard to suggest a course of treatment.

Controlling dandruff: Dandruff (seborrhea) is common. Shampoos with zinc, salicylic acid, selenium, or coal tar are sold in many stores. Nizoral shampoo (contains anti-fungal) is also available. Doctors may also recommend cortisone or kenalog (triamcinolone) sprays. Prevent dryness (don't wash hair too often). A primary doctor or dermatologist can look for psoriasis, eczema, or fungal infections if unusual or worrisome scalp symptoms.

i have been exercising a little bit everyday.i want to wash my hair each time bc i feel during but i use dry shampoo instead. how often can i wash it?

Hair washing : It is perfectly fine to wash hair every day. Dry shampoo does not remove the sweat and oils that are deposited on the scalp and hair during exercise. People with very curly hair may find it difficult to wash hair every day as the hair is fragile and will get damaged easily if overwashed.

every time i wash my hair i get a headache. why is that? is it the shampoo or something else?

Accepted Answer

Would depend: on the headache.
Frontal headache with sinus fullness.... a sinus congestion/irritation.
Often people move their head and neck a log w. washing hair and strains of the neck can give headaches inthe back of the head.
Tension typically in the forehead (haven't found that to be true)
New headaches are a reason to seek evaluation
Without an actual examination, I cannot give specific medical advice.

i have an extremely hypersensitive scalp. every shampoo i use is extremely irritating, even baby shampoo. can i just wash my hair with plain water?

Yes, but....: Sure, you can use just plain water.  However, this would really be more of a rinse than a wash. There is a brand called vanicream that makes things specifically for sensitive skin.  They make a shampoo and conditioner that some of my patients really like. It might be worth a try. Otherwise, seeing a dermatologist might be necessary to help find out a cause.

i use to wash my hair with only water and shampoo after exercise. that disaster made my scalp suffer as hell. from last 2 years, i have been using betonil and betnovate lotion on my scalp. it cures my scalp but has made them dry, frizzy. any advice?

: Something doesn't compute. Regardless of exercise, washing hair with shampoo and water rinse shouldn't cause any kind of scalp problem, unless you are allergic to the shampoo. Presumably a doctor diagnosed a problem (seborrheic dermatitis? allergy?) and prescribed both steroid products, right? If not working as well as expected, discuss with doctor, ideally a dermatologist. Good luck.
