i have ibs and i will take pepto, tylenol, (acetaminophen) peppermint, ativan, amodium, gas x an everything i can think of but i can't stop my diarrhea and pain. why?

Diarrhea: If it's a viral infection, rest. Drink adequate fluids. Don't eat harsh roughage foods which are undigestable. Take kaopectate or imodium if diarrhea isn't improving. See MD if not better after several days and a stool culture will be done to look for pathogenic bacteria or parasites. Bleeding from rectum or vomiting would be concerning for serious illness and need for examination.

See an MD: Most self limited causes of diarrhea such as viral gastroenteritis and food poisoning will resolve in less than 1 week.  There are many causes of chronic diarrhea such as infections caused by giardia and cryprtosporidium-inflammatory bowel disease-malabsorption etc.  Get checked out.

No meds: I generally do not give any medication for diarrhea because this is the body flushing out what is causing the problem in the first place. Occasionally antibiotics are used if there is a worsening situation with a bacterial diarrhea that is causing bloody stool and fever. If the number of bowel movements a day is decreasing and he is drinking and eating you usually need no medication. Good luck.

See your doctor: Could be lots of things. You should see your doctor to get tested. Make sure you drink lots of fluids so you don't get dehydrated.

Lithium: Some forms of lithium have more effect on your intestinal tract, such as lithium carbonate, others less, such as Eskalith or lithobid. Discuss with your prescribing doctor.
