how severe of a problem is it if i got a nose bleed from taking dayquil?

Accepted Answer

Not severe: Assuming you are not using the nasal spray form of this brand then the nose bleed may be due to drying especially if the bleeding is from the just inside the nostril.  It is also important to consider that bleeding may be caused by the condition that led you to take the medication in the first place.

Peace of mind: Depends on what caused nosebleed.  Was it trauma or spontaneous?  Another consideration is peace of mind.  If you're going to be worried and up all night, take her to be evaluated to be sure.

Anxiety Symptoms: Generally anxiety can cause a whole host of symptoms, but nose bleeds are not usually one of them. If this is the only time he gets them, then perhaps it is related; however, i would have it checked out to rule out anything else - as the chronic use of afrin or other nasal drying agents.

Probably not.: Bloody noses are common in children have allergies. Your child may have allergic rhinitis as well as his reactive airway disease. You don't mention your child's age. If the nosebleeds are too frequent you should mention them to your doctor.

Blurry vision: Persistent headache with blurry vision-- you may wish to see a neurologist-- even though it could be a migraine, the duration of this headache is worrisome.  Talk to you primary doctor today about your options.

Nose bleeds: Apply gentle pressure to the end of her nose for a good 5-10 minutes. If you can't stop the bleeding within 15-20 minutes then go to ED.  Refer to the following link for a lot of good guidance.  Good luck!

Not serious: intermittent nose bleeds are not worrisome - even if you have never had them before. I usually recommend saline mist or gel - like ChitoRhino. Using that as needed throughout the day to keep the nose moisturized can help. See an ENT if it does not improve after these simple measures.

Yes: If frequent without nose picking, congestion should be evaluated
