Hormone levels: As we enter our 40's, our hormone levels can fluctuate more.  Estrogen and Progesterone control our cycle and they can become more erratic.  Thyroid levels can affect cycles as well.  Excess weight or excess thinness can cause changes too.  If you're concerned i would see a physician so that they can get a complete history and possibly run some tests.

okay so i've stopped spotting pink completely and im 9 days late now. what could it be? my two pregnancys i've had all my tests came out negative.

Spotting: If you are not on any birth control it may be due to a fluctuation in your body's hormones. Often times this can be due to stress and be of no consequence. It will probably straighten out by itself.

Irregular periods: Irregular periods are one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections ;  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.

It happens sometimes: Many women have occasional variation of their mucus discharge, some spotting between periods, a heavier period, a lighter period, a longer or shorter period, or even a missed period.  Having one or two of these symptoms doesn’t necessarily mean there is a medical problem, but a visit to one’s primary care or Ob-Gyn doctor is a good idea if symptoms persist. A home pregnancy test can rule out preg.

Delayed menses: Although your pregnancy test is negative you should have yourself checked to find the reason for your 'killing' back pain. A PCP or Gynecologist may be of help.

Can do preg. test: A urine pregnancy test, done correctly, gives a reliable result 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred), or 1 week after a "weird" period. If done sooner, a positive result is likely real, but a negative result may be due to testing too soon, and thus lead to a repeat test. If a woman gets her normal regular period, then she is not pregnant, and a test is not needed.

Blighted ovum: You may have had what is referred to as a blighted ovum, which occurs when an egg is fertilized, but an embryo does not develop.  Blighted ovum is usually related to a high level of chromosome abnormalities.  Prior to development of early pregnancy tests, women often did not know they were pregnant when this occurred.  Implantation is also possibility. Repeat pregnancy test now &amp; in one week.

Pelvic exam: Many causes: hormonal changes, a cut or inflammation from intercourse or foreplay, irritation or broken vaginal blood vessels. I suggest an internal pelvic examination and abstaining sexually until cleared by your physician.

Can be normal: There can be variations in a womans menstrual cycle that are considered normal and not to alarm about.  If these changes become consistent and constant, then evaluation with a provider can shed some light on a problem.
