Treat it: The best thing to do is to treat the hypothyroidism and bring the hormone up to the normal range.  Make sure there is no large growth that is compressing on your vocal cord nerves.

Many reasons: But the underlying problem is something affecting the vibration of your vocal cords.  The vocal cords are like two strands of a rubber band.  When they don't vibrate well, you will have hoarseness.  This can be due to inflammation (reflux, allergies), infection, poor technique leading to fatigue, smoking, nodules, polyps, cysts, etc.  If hoarseness persists, you should see an ent.

Voice rest: Hydrate well.   Consider using a warm air vaporizer. Mix several teaspoons of honey into herbal tea  with a squeeze of lemon juice.  Or make tea with 2 tsp of marshmallow root bark per 1cup of hot water (steep in a covered pot for at least 5 minutes).  Drink several times a day or as needed to relieve coughing. See a physician if your cough is not resolving, difficulty breathing or temp &gt; 104.

Try not: To use it so much. Rest is the bear doe it. A quiet whisper you should use if you have to use your voice
