However, they are often prescribed to treat anxiety, as well, due to a calming effect. If anxiety also causes you to have difficulty with sleep, an added benefit may be that the med is sedating. : Would avoid taking the two medications together.  Sounds like your regular doctor and the ER were unaware of the other's prescribing.  Contact your regular doctor and acquire an appropriate plan.  Perhaps a psychiatrist should become involved.

Adjust medications: I would advise seeing an allergist right away. If you have Prednisolone at home, please take the medication as directed while continuing your other medications. You are experiencing an allergic reaction which has worsened. Watch for trouble swallowing and trouble breathing. If these symptoms occur, please go the Emergency room. Allergic reactions may be prolonged. Allergy testing indicated.

Maybe: Diphenhydramine (benedryl) is not a sleep aid, but an antihistamine. If allergy therapy is warranted and the secondary drowsiness helps to take the edge off, then improved sleep may be achieved. However, some folks excrete benedryl more slowly, and drowsiness may extend through the next morning and be detrimental to alertness. Also, bladder dysfunction occurs in a few patients.
