Internal derangement: Internal derangement of the knee covers a broad spectrum of underlying damage. A swollen knee will hurt in the back as the pressure sensitive pain fibers of your knee capsule (mostly in the back) send a pain signal to your brain with increased loading of the joint. Cartilage damage, a meniscus tear are most common culprits. Orthopaedic evaluation, standing xrays, and possible MRI are warranted.

Varies: I am sorry you are not doing better, hopefully will resolve over time; I would certainly let your surgeon know.  Most common causes of posterior knee pain after a partial menisectomy would include : persistent effusion/bakers cyst, recurrent tear, or underlying chondromalacia that was not addressed in surgery.  Again, I would let your surgeon know you are having problems.

Chondromalacia ...: Sounds like chondromalacia  patelli or patello-femoral pain. That is an inflammation of the jint between the kneecap and the underlying groove in the femur. More common in women than men due to the mechanics of the knee and wider pelvis in females. Classically painful going down stairs and getting up from a chair.
