HSV1: No, hsv1 is the strain of human herpes virus.  Hsv1 and 2 typically lie in the ganglia of neurons.  If the lesions break out in the pubic region they are considered to be "genital herpes".

i gave my partner genital herpes through oral sex (hsv1) with no symptoms but had an outbreak a few weeks beforehand. she then passed it on to me through sex as she was unaware. does this mean i have hsv2 and 1 now?

: HSV 1 and 2 are 2 different viruses. HSV 1 is more prevalent on the lips, but in the recent years it has been found more often in the genital area. HSV 2 is seen in the genital area. Both look the same when the outbreak happens, behave similarly and are treated with the same medications (for outbreaks or for suppression). Only a blood test for antibodies will be able to differentiate between them.

can hsv2 outbreak look like mole/freckles? my ex had what he thought was hsv1(cold sores) but the test came back negative and hsv2 was positive.can hsv2 be oral only or does it mean he also has genital herpes?his dr said his freckles were an outbreak?

: Usually, HSV2 does not cause darken lesions, they are usually flesh colored, white, and sometimes red. They usually cause bumps.

Yes: A person with herpes 1 can give herpes 1 to another person's mouth or genitals, if that other person does not yet have herpes 1. Herpes 1 cannot turn into 2, nor vice versa. A person is not immune to herpes 1 unless he has caught herpes 1, and likewise, he is not immune to herpes 2 unless he has caught herpes 2. That means having herpes 1 does not protect you against herpes 2, and vice versa.

See doctor: There are no cures for these viral attacks but they can be controlled.  There are medications to treat the lesions and pain.  Some can be topical, like ointments to soothe the ulcerations, etc.  Some pills to take to lessen or hasten the healing, like valtrex (valacyclovir). See your doctor.  Dentist can treat the oral lesions, like cold sores.  Dermatologist, primary care physician or gynecologist for genital.

It is also true in this answer as well as  HSV 1 tends to be oral and HSV 2 tends to infect the genitals. However, with oral sexual practices, Type 1 herpes can end up in Type 2 places and vice versa when "dining out".

Maybe false positive: Edited, correcting a misunderstanding in my initial reply:  Most HSV2 IgG tests, e.g. HerpeSelect®), are officially positive at ELISA ratio 1.1 or higher. However, it is reliably positve only at 3.5 or higher. With your value of 1.5, there&#x27;s at least a 50:50 chance you do NOT have HSV2, despite the test result. Speak with your doctor about confirmatory testing, e.g. Western blot test.

Both are common.: The prevalence of infection in adult us population for hsv-1 is about 60%  and for hsv about 20%. There is a lot of crossover with the two types.

Manageable risks: If a mother delivers vaginally with her first genital outbreak, there is ~30% risk the baby could get it and have a terrible illness. If a recurrent outbreak, this drops to ~4% but suppression of outbreaks (meds) or c-section delivery before the membranes are open 4 hours can cancel the risk. Rarely, some women shed herpes without an outbreak and could pass it , baby sick  around 2 wks.
