The nurse is being cautious and helping make sure that Herpes is not the cause of the irritation. There are two types of HSV, HSV 1 and HSV 2. A reflex test asks the laboratory to determine which type of HSV it is only if EITHER type of HSV is detected to begin with.

Depends on details: Numbers are just numbers. Lab result reference ranges vary for Negative, Equivocal (means maybe or maybe not), or Positive. It depends on the reference ranges at that lab, and which range 54.10 is in. If a woman is in an Equivocal range and never has symptoms, she might not be infected. If she is in an Equivocal range and does have symptoms, she's likely infected. Life is not exact.

You don't list the age of the kid of the site of the original outbreak or why the meds were stopped.This prevents me from a more specific answer. Discuss this with the doc who started the meds.

Depends on units and: Depends on reference range. If the IgG antibody level for Type 1 and for Type 2 herpes are both well above the upper limit of the reference ranges, then the patient is presumed immune to catching those viruses. In the usual situation, where the patient's antibodies are his own (not from a transfusion or injection), then he is immune because he already caught both viruses.

Herpes test: Probably 80-90% of newly infected people would have positive results by 7 weeks if infected. 3-4 months needed for conclusive results. But if no symptoms to suggest herpes, then that fact plus negative at 7 weeks is nearly 100% proof you weren't infected.

Herpes: A positive IgG means that you have recently or in the past had a Herpes Simplex Virus infection. HSV is not curable as the virus can live hidden in nerve cells. HSV 1 causes oral sores/ HSV 2 causes genital sores. Both are very contagious. These sores can be treated with antivirals when they arise. Precautions should be taken during pregnancy and if the person becomes immunocompromised.
