More info needed: It's often difficult to know when and from whom HSV2 was acquired. The numerical result of HSV2 antibody testing might indicate new infection, especially if it was quite low (e.g. under 2.0 rising to 3.9). But moderate changes in the number usually don't mean much. If a previous result was say 3.0, it's probably not a new infection and you might have been infected long before your affair.

i think i was exposed to hsv 2 and took an hsv 2 igg test 3 weeks later, the test came back "equivocal". did i test too early or would my titers have been well into the positive at this point? range for equivocal is .90 - 1.09, my result was 0.91?

Accepted Answer

: The IgG test detects chronic antibodies to HSV, not acute ones.  You should have had an IgM test.  0.91 is the absolute lower limit of equivocal, meaning you probably do not have any longterm antibodies to HSV, but it doesn't give you any information about recent exposure.  Get an IgM test -- and because the IgG was not definitive, I would repeat that as well.

i have hsv 2 and had for about two months and trying to figure out how i got it . before i had sex that day i had shaved and left myself cuts from the razor . could he have passed to me that way ? if he was having an outbreak already ?

: The only way to catch HSV2 is to have sex with an infected person. Having shaved, perhaps you developed a more severe case than otherwise, but shaving wasn't the cause of the herpes. Also make sure the diagnosis is correct:  skin infection following shaving (folliculitis) sometimes is misdiagnosed as herpes.

ive had three hsv igg clia blood tests done (4, 6, & 7 months post exposure). hsv 2 is negative but hsv 1 is inconclusive. what do three equivocal hsv 1 (.90) results mean? should i consider this negative or positive? two years ago, it was negative?

: Even if you have HSV 1, also called oral herpes, it is not a serious matter. Majority of the adult have had HSV 1. Other than cold sores, HSV 1 infection is inconsequential, except in rare instances of immune deficiency.
Get HPV and Covid vaccines.

All is normal: Your WBC, neurtrophil, and lymphocyte counts are normal. They naturally vary and there is no evidence of any health problem. These results have nothing to do with your HSV2 infection.

HSV: pimples are more likely folliculitis from shaving.  HSV2 lesions present more like blisters.

Many causes: There are many reasons or causes of oral, genital, or other skin type lesions.  Herpes is only one viral infection.  See your medical doctor or a dermatologist to be diagnosed and treated properly.

Yes: You have to watch for an outbreak around the time of delivery and take Acyclovir if this is suspected, but yes you can have a baby!

Oral vs Genital: Herpes simplex virus 1 causes 90% of oral herpes infections and 10% of genital herpes infections.  Herpes simplex virus 2 causes the exact converse percentages of disease.  Herpes simplex 1 causes sporatic encephalitis while hsv2 rarely causes recurrent viral meningitis.
