Can happen: The HPV virus has been known to be associated with the development of squamous cancer of the cervix.  More recently, HPV has been shown to also be associated with oral squamous cancer.  Since the virus is present under the foreskin of the penis and the vaginal area of  the cervix, any means by which the virus can enter the oral cavity can induce the squamous cell lesion. Cunilingus is one method.

Not exactly: There are over 40 different types of HPV virus.  The Cervarix vaccine is a vaccine against HPV types 16 &amp; 18.  The Gardasil vaccine is a vaccine against HPV types 6, 11, 16, &amp; 18.  These were chosen because 16 &amp; 18 are the most common cause of Cervical Cancer while 6 and 11 are the most common cause of genital warts.  The vaccine doesn't protect against the less common types.   Best wishes.

i would like to do a throat and mouth swab test for the hpv virus. one clinic offers me an hpv urine test. is hpv present in the whole body, so this test would also be fine, or do i have to do a targeted search?

: The virus usually infects cavities or surfaces like penis, vagina throat etc and not the whole body. Your doc will order the appropriate area/areas test

Possibly: If in fact your husband has had hpv (which appears to be in question) it is also possible that he transmitted it to you.  I suspect, however, that if you have had pelvic exams with pap smears done during the years of your marriage and they have not revealed changes compatible with hpv infection, then you are free of disease.  It would be advisable to see your ob/gyn doctor.  Good luck.

Stop worrying: Everybody has a few strains of HPV. There are probably over 100 subtypes. Warts are no big deal. Be glad you have a friend who likes you enough to let you borrow his pillow.

Not as dangerous..: It is not as dangerous form men as it is for women. In men, it typically causes venereal 
warts. In women, certain strains of hpv can cause cervical cancer. Certain strains might 
be related to penile cancers. Best is to avid unprotected sexual relations and if you have 
a lesion that doesn’t belong…get it checked out.

Not yet: "Never say never," as the saying goes. The HPV tests are only for women's cervixes. If you don't have a cervix, you don't qualify. So, what about researchers investigating HPV infections in other parts of the body, such as anuses or throats? You can look online to see if any such cancer or infectious disease researchers NEAR YOU are looking for subjects to study. Even then, you might not qualify.

Yes: Though less  well known the hpv virus is associated with bowens disease , a precancerous lesion of the penis(similar to cervical dysplasia). Penile cancer, esophageal cancer & that of the base of the tongue, and anorectal cancer.

Often no symptoms...: Most men with hpv infection have no signs or symptoms.  Hpv can infect the skin of the penis / scrotum / perianal areas and can cause warts, but many male patients who have hpv have no symptoms.  Hpv can also cause dysplasia (precancer) and true cancer at these sites.  In addition, hpv can infect the lips, oral cavity, tongue / tonsils and can cause warts, precancer, and cancer in these sites too.
