No : HPV is an abbreviation for Human Papilloma Virus, a virus which causes genital warts. In some cases these warts can be more aggressive and can cause inflammation on a woman's cervix. This inflammation can cause abnormal cells to develop. This may cause spotting but in most cases women who are infected with HPV have no symptoms. The virus does not affect menstruation in any way.

HPV does not: Affect menses, a pap will not tell you about the red spots and hpv is not leading to them.  There is not a disease process that starts by red spots in the vagina but maybe you are looking too hard for fear of hpv.  You may have small hemmorrages secondary to your anticouagulant and vaginal trauma from intercourse.

No: Hpv definitely does not change your menstrual cycle. You should see a doctor soon , skipping 8 months is not normal and should be sorted out.

It : It is unlikely that it is related to hpv.  It may be that you need a different preparation of birth control pills to control your bleeding.  It would be worthwhile to discuss this with your prescriber.  You may need different pills with a different formulation.  Be sure your pap smear is up to date while you are there.

Unlikely: Genital HPV does not infect normal skin, such as that found on the thigh or buttock, which is the area in contact with a toilet seat. The virus must come in contact with genital skin or mucous membrane.

No but please don't: HPV would not be transferred but I would suggest not using someone else's menstrual cup. That seems like a bad idea. Menstrual cups are covered in blood and simple boiling can not eliminate the risk of blood transfer.  It would be safer, easier and more hygienic to simply buy your own or use a maxi pad or tampon.

i had cryotherapy for hpv 2 weeks ago. i am with my husband and we don't use condoms. after this menstrual week,  can we have sex without a condom?

Accepted Answer

You can: but maybe you shouldn't.  1st of all, adhere to your doctor's recommendations.  Although your visible HPV was treated,, almost certainly there is still virus present.  You and your husband will continue to pass HPV back and forth unless condoms are used.
