i am 36 & i had a normal pap, but hpv e6 e7 was detected. i didnt have one in years to know when it started. i bleed after sexual intercourse but only when its a few days before my period. can this be undetected cervical cancer?

: If you had an otherwise normal pap, you do not have undetected cervical cancer.  Most people are able to clear the HPV virus on their own.  Important to practice safe sex, and to continue to have regular paps by your gynecologist.

Oncogenic virus: This is a type of HPV that has been associated with cervical cancer and indicates that closer surveillance of Pap smears might be appropriate.  It does not mean that cancer is inevitable.

6 y ago that i had a pap smear that showed i had low grade lesions. but it disappeared and for years it was normal . i recently had a pap smear done and it show hpv mrna e6/e7 detected ? do this mean i have cancer ? now its abnormal worried?

: No, it does not mean that you have cancer or even dysplasia. However, you should get repeat PAPs at the frequency recommended by your doctor.
It would be useful to get HPV vaccine to prevent infection by other strains of HPV.

60 year old. my husband & i of 40 years have never had any other sexual partners. my last pap smear showed positive hpv mrna e6/e7. negative genotypes 16, 18/45 &negative cytology. all negative in 2021 as well. how is this possible? next steps?

: HPV is contracted through sexual contact with an infected person. The virus is transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, and condoms may not provide complete protection against it. HPV can also be spread through oral sex, anal sex, and other forms of sexual activity. This is a perplexing answer isn't it.

: Please get repeat PAPs as advised by your doctor. There is long enough latent period for carcinoma of the cervix to develop and regular PAP smears will protect you.

i have had 2 abnormal pap with ascus hpv positive e6/e7(may 2019 and may 2020). i havent had sex since the diagnosis but i just started dating someone and i want to make sure i am safe. what should i do? i did receive the vaccine as a teen. 25 now?

Protection: There really are only 2 ways you can be assured you are not passing on  the HPV to someone - abstinence or use of a condom. There is no good way to know if you are actively shedding virus, as most people are asymptomatic with the virus.  Use a condom for optimal reassurance.

Need to monitor: You are at risk for cervix lesions due to HPV. Follow your doctor's advice about repeat PAP test.
Get HPV vaccine to prevent infection with other strains of HPV.
