Does happen: Some things that can cause a false negative HPT: Taking the test too early; Checking the results too soon (you have to read instructions and set a timer); Drinking a lot of water can dilute your urine and give you a false negative (first am urine is most concentrated).  A pregnancy that isn't doing well such as an ectopic pregnancy sometimes doesn't make enough hormone to turn a test positive.

Yes: There can be false negatives to any test. Hpt is generally reliable if you do the test 4-5 days after a missed period, use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the testing carefully.

No: As I mentioned earlier, if the test is done correctly, hpt is accurate and would be positive at 7 weeks of pregnancy. If you have any doubt, get a blood test for HCG level and that would be conclusive.

Possible ..: Its possible but not common.  After 6 weeks there is a higher concentration of HCG beta core fragment and this can cause the Hook Effect.  In some tests this has caused false negatives.  Some of the newer tests such as the "First Response Early Result" are supposed to be modified to prevent this uncommon problem.   Best wishes!

Not pregnant: If you did not have sex after termination of an earlier pregnancy, you are not pregnant. If the hpt is negative, it is a true negative.

Ok: This is a head problem, not a gynecological one.  You have MORE than enough proof that you are not pregnant.  I think it's time you go talk to someone about your anxiety around this issue.

Pregnancy tests: Home pregnancy tests are very accurate. They are the same tests used in a doctors office. They can detect a pregnancy 7-10 days after conception. The best time to take one is when you miss your period.  If you doubt the result you can repeat it in 1-2 days. If you were pregnant the hormone level would rise enough for detection.

i'm really tired of  worrying about this is there any real possibility of a false negative  hpt 4 months after possible conception? i have had all my periods on time for the past 3 months with the first one after being lighter after plan b . no sympt?

Pregnancy: You do understand that during your regular menstrual cycle your uterine lining of tissue and blood is shed and expelled from your body, preparing for another ovulation. No fertilization, and the cycle repeats, over and over. You've had plan B, three periods, no symptoms,  and a neg test. It appears you are not pregnant, but you can take a blood test to settle all concerns.

More testing: Pregnancy hormones may not yet have been elevated 5 days ago, so repeat the test first.  If it is still negative and your period still doesn't appear in the next week you should be checked for other problems.
