8 hours: Ex-lax usually takes up to 8 hours to work.  You need fiber to keep regular. Also increasing your water intake helps. High fat and processed foods can contribute to constipation.

Bowel blockage: In a 31 yr old bowel blockage can be from constipation. If you are feeling nauseated, an evaluation may be warranted. Ok to use suppository but avoid oral laxatives. It can cause more damage in unresolved blockage.  Have low residue liquid diet and seek medical attention . Long term avoid constipation.

Roughage: Lots of fiber -- whole grains like barley, oats, popcorn, millet, buckwheat, brown rice, whole rye and wild rice.  Fruits & vegetables like broccoli, leafy greens, apples, oranges, carrots, cabbage, red grapes, tomatoes, eggplant, strawberries and other prunes. Legumes like lentils, soybeans, split peas, kidney beans, pinto beans, lima beans, chickpeas, edamame and black beans. Water too!

Not  necessarily: If you ate green jello or green liquids during the clear liquid prep it would come out green. Also bile from your liver will give a green tinge to output. As long as there is no sediment or solid stool you should be good to go for your colonoscopy.

Variable: Never complete as long as you are alive and eating.

If this has been a recurring issue, start with more liquids and a stool, softener which retains fluid and softens the stool for easier passage.
