: The symptoms as stated above suggests one might have problem with the Circulatory System in the lower extremities. Besides a good evaluation by the PCP, a Vascular Consult might also have to be seen and more specific questions can then be answered. There are good solutions for most of the potential problems that might be detected.

Veins: Varicose veins are from venous insufficiency (vi).  Vi is a vein or veins not working like it should.  The vein allows backwards blood flow, which increases pressure and the vein dilates so you can see it.  Simplest treatment is compression stockings of 20 - 30 mm compression.  Best treatment is to find insufficient veins and treat with ablation / surgery / sclerotherapy.

Direct pressure.: Superficial veins can cause bleeding.  If this happens then you should elevate the area, apply direct pressure and compress the bleeding site with an ace bandage.  If this does not control the bleeding then you should go to the er or your physician.

It depends on ...: Where the vein is. We generally don't treat vein valves in saphenous and varicose veins. Varicose veins are so twisted and enlarge that even if we did fix the valves, it wouldn't do any good. Although there are vein procedures for saphenous valves, it generally works at least as well to perform a thermal, surgical or chemical ablation  of the vein and remove it. Deep vein valve repair can be done.
