Controversial, but..: I would say no, as long as you practice good hand hygiene and consider wearing gloves frequently at work.  Staphylococcus is all around us and you won't pass it to others if you wash hands frequently with antibacterial soaps and/or use alcohol based hand disinfectant.

Decolonization: Staph aureus may colonize your nose and back of throat and then the skin surface.  You should make an attempt to reduce or eliminate this by nasal bactoban and use of a Chlorhexidine containing soap.  See your doctor about this.  The obvious question, however, is who are you trying to prevent the spread to?  If an intimate partner, they are probably already colonized.

Probably not: Infections tend to make the areas hyperesthetic - the burning sensation may intensify with heat.  However, if the heating pad (with moderate, not scalding heat) makes you feel better, there shouldn't be harm associated with it.  It won't treat the actual infection, however.

Rash, pain, fever: May be others as well. Wound infections can occur. Staph can cause a serious infection in the skin and underlying tissue.

Antibiotics: Depending what the staph is sensitive to various antibiotics can be used. Surgical soap may be helpful in decreasing the bacteria to decrease chances reinfection.

Hand Contact: Most staph. Infections are spread from person-to-person by hand contact. These infections start by introducing the germ to a new site; if the skin is intact, then no infection developes and the person may just harbor the organisim. Any break in the skin may introduce the germ into the deeper layers of the skin, thereby setting up the potential for a serious infection. Frequent handwashing helps.

Symptoms clear: You will know when the original symptoms are clear and you finish your antibiotic course.  What exactly to look for depends on the source and location of the infection in question.

Not easy: Unless you have an immune deficiency of some kind the chance of getting a staph infection is very low, staph grows normally on the skin but rarely invades the skin or other parts of the body.

Maybe with soaks: You could try soaking the area in a tub with a cup of bleach or vinegar (one or the other) once a day, i often alternate them (one day bleach, the next day vinegar).  You can also try otc antibiotic ointments.  However if this is not improving you should see a doctor for antibiotics.
