Blood under nail: If you hit your skin very hard, it will damage small blood vessels in your skin, and you will get a bruise, where blood has leaked from the veins into the skin. If you hit your finger nail very hard, you will get bleeding under the nail, which may lift your nail up. There is no where for this blood to go, and the black, old blood, will remain until the nail grows out  and it may take months.

Stay healthy: Toe nails grow slowly--maybe 6+months for a full nail...Finger nails much faster.
Like all else in your body: good health produces good body parts. Eat well, exercises, check with your doc to make sure no thyroid diseases, kidney diseases, anemia, or vitamin deficiency etc..
Also, avoid traumas to your nails.

6-9 months: Nails are tissue that grow back slowly.  Up to nine months on average.  Go see your doctor.

Nail Damage: More than likely, unless the trauma was severe enough to injure the nail plate.  Just wait and see.  Toenails take 9 months to grow from the base to the tip.

 if the insulation has not been cut the end of the fiber farthest from the brain dies the end that is closest to the brain does not die after some time it may begin to heal
 new fibers may grow beneath the intact insulating tissue until reach the  muscle or skin.

: The nail bed is that portion of the skin beneath the nail plate. If the nail matrix is not involved, you should experience Normal growth of the nail and surrounding skin.
