Yes, but why?: If you have been having regular period and now missing it, i would make sure you are not pregnant first. If not, then you need to figure out why...On meds, excessive wt loss, thyroid problem, and rare cases of ovarian failure or pituitary tumor can cause amenorrhea (no period). So, i would consult doc to find out the cause, then appropriate treatment can be provided. Good luck.

Vaginal bleeding: The menstrual cycle is monthly vaginal bleeding which occurs when the woman is fertile and ovulates (produces an egg, which takes about 2 weeks) but does NOT then get pregnant.  The uterine lining will build up for a couple of weeks to prepare for a possible pregnancy.  This will shed away in the form of bleeding when pregnancy has not occurred and then the process will start all over again.

At 48 okay: At 48 it's normal to have some increased fluxuations in your cycle.  The average age of menopause is 51, so you're getting closer. Many women in late 40's begin to miss periods.  If you're not too heavy or too thin, and you don't have a thyroid disorder then i wouldn't worry.  Of course, pregnancy needs to be ruled out (i know, i know!), but that's highly unlikely. Menstruation ?'s: Changes in frequency and amounts of pain, bleeding are caused by increasing age, delays in ovulation secondary to stress (emotional, or job related) and of course pregnancy.  Significant changes should be reviewed by your gyn physician as to specific causation.

Track it with a: calendar. How many days long is it? First day you bleed is day 1. Last day is day before you bleed again. Ovulation is 14 days before period.

Menses: Many women have changes in their cycles after age 35.  They can be heavier, shorter or you can skip them.  Often times this is due to ovulation issues.  However, its always important to rule out other things too like pregnancy, low thyroid, hyperprolactinemia.  Your provider can do this with blood work.
