Eat a good diet and: You gain weight by eating a good balanced diet and you perform a reasonable exercise exercise program.  You don't have to join a local gym.  Gym routines are awfully boring. But if you do at least you will be with other people who are doing the same thing and the boredom factor may decrease. You may meet a coach there and a dietician.

If that is the case, you need protein rich diet to build muscle, Try protein shakes before choosing midriff exercises for abdomen and quads, 30 minutes, 4-5 times a week. Remember, you need to build your stamina for exercises and increased protein load for your body.

Protein powder drinks and higher protein foods can help strengthen muscles throughout the body.  Exercise can tone muscles. Re-evaluate: With weight loss you may no longer need losartan and hydrochlorothiazide. With healthy eating and exercise weight gain could be increased muscle mass. Weight gain could be from fluid retention previously lost or stool if constipated. Stress and lack of sleep can cause weight gain.

All exercise routines should include a cardio component like jogging, fast walking, biking, etc. for 30 min/d. These will help stamina and increase appetite. You add muscle mass by using them. Free weights, machines, isometrics or other muscle stressors can help add muscle mass.
