i am african. my hands have gone much darker than the rest of my body. my face and hands look like three/four or so shades apart. how do i get this fixed? i need my hands lighter.

I am not sure you: can. If your hands are irritated frequently , this can cause the hands to be darker.  There is no specific for darker area of the body other than lighteners. 
See a derm doc  if available to see what might be done.

If you want to...: ...Lighten your skin tone cosmetically, a variety of otc skin lighteners are available. (avoid the foreign-made ones containing mercury, which are dangerous.) if you have vitiligo and you want to permanently bleach the skin that is not affected, benoquin (monobenzone) can be prescribed by a dermatologist.

No: A baby is baby-colored, and an adult is adult-colored.  It would be really odd for an adult to be the same exact color he was at birth.

Naturally dark?: Naturally dark skin is genetically determined, and runs in the family. A person gets darker after being in the sun, and lighter when out of the sun. If one is the same color as one's parents, siblings, and other relatives in the racial group, then one's color is most likely normal. If one is much darker than other family members, then a primary care doctor can evaluate for a hormonal problem.

Don't try it, Norma: Please don't try to change the color of your skin. Sunscreen can prevent darkening from tanning. But any chemicals that you try to use will disfigure you -- it simply will not look right or natural. In the US, which sets world trends, judging by skin color is the hallmark of the worst ignorance. Embrace whatever Nature gave you, and remember that good looks are 95% fitness, which you control.

This : This would be a discussion to have with your dermatologist.  There are some fading and depigmentation creams available, but these would be prescription products to be used only under the care and supervision of a dermatologist.  I hope that helps.

See DDS or ENT: There are a number of possibilities so you need to have a knowledgable professional examine you and make the diagnosis. It may just be pigment, or a pool ol blood vessels.

Tests are accurate: Home urine pregnancy tests are very accurate by 3 weeks after sex. If testing over a few days, and getting positive lines, the tests are considered positive even if the control lines are faint lines. One can contact her primary care doctor (or her Ob-Gyn doctor if she has one) to ask what the next step is. Usually, women take their prenatal vitamins and schedule an appointment with the doctor.

Protect: Avoid things that make you break out, soaps & wetness. Wash your hands only when necessary. Wear gloves when needed. Wear clothes made of cotton. Bathe only with a small amount of mild unscented soap, such as dove. Keep the water temperature cool or warm, not hot! use the medicine your doctor gave you. Use a plain moisturizer daily. Avoid scratching or rubbing the itchy area. Manage stress.
