Elevation of feet/le: Elevation of feet and lower legs on pillows, especially at night while asleep, then applying support hose before getting out of bed in am, to prevent swelling during the day.

Swelling: It really depends on the cause.  If its both feet and legs it may be due to congestive heart failure, low protein in the blood or chronic venous changes.  You need a full evaluation by a doctor.  The treatment depends on the cause.  Sometimes elevation helps, other times medications are needed.  Usually cutting back on salt intake is helpful also.

Achilles tendonitis.: As you describe it, you might have an injury in the lower part of your Achilles tendon. Whe in gets swollen, you need rest, ice, compression and feet elevation. To prevent injury, you need a rehabilitation program to make you tendon stronger. If it gets repeteadly injured, and without rehabilitation, you risk developing chronic pain and weakness.

Couple days: I would take it easy, sit with your feet elevated as much as possible today and be careful of your salt intake.  The swelling should subside in a couple days.  If you're on vacation, this is a little more challenging due to sightseeing and eating out.  You could buy some compression stockings at a local pharmacy.
