Burping and gas: Air in the digestive tract may come from a variety of sources-maldigestion due to enzyme deficiency (ex. Lactose intolerance) or food intolerance (ex. Gluten sensitivity), fermentation by gut bacteria (as with bacterial overgrowth syndrome or changed flora after antibiotics), altered GI tract motility, excessive air swallowing, as well as inflammatory and infectious causes.  Easy to test for these.

Gas: Usually, this "gas" is in the stomach, just beneath the diaphragm. Using something that would diminish gas production such as gas-x or digel can help you burp and relieve the pressure. If this problem persists, however, a visit to the gastroenterologist is in order.

Try yogurt: You had heart surgery 4 days ago.  You were given antibiotics during the surgery so you can try yogurt to return your normal gut flora.  Also walk a lot every day to move the gas along.  If you are taking pain killers try to also take a stool softener.

Gas: Generally caused by swallowing air. Review all your eating and drinking. If you are sucking on candy, chewing gum, drinking frequently, etc., you are also swallowing air and it's going to come out the other end. By cutting down on the air swallowed you cut down on the gas volume. Simethicone is a drug which breaks up gas bubbles and can help symptoms

Ambulate: Laparoscopy uses carbon dioxide which is readily absorbed by the body.  Most patients however are given a bowel regimen to clean out the intestines.  This maybe why you feel a lot of gas.  Ambulate to get your body back to normal.  Sometimes depending on the procedure there could be air in the thorax and this requires an x-ray to see.  Check with your doctor to let them know your pain.
