Lean protein: When building muscle, try for about one gram of protein / day / pound you weigh. Try to avoid greasy, fatty and salty stuff. Most bodybuilders favor chicken, fish, whey / soy powder and there are some tofu fans also. Otherwise eat to satisfy hunger, do plenty of aerobic exercise for health and definition. I'm glad you're undertaking this adventure and hope it will be a lifelong habit.

Not Really: There are areas of bone growth at the end of long bones, called epiphyseal plate(s).  This is where we get "height" and "length" of our extremities.  It has been shown if young males, particularly, engage in heavy resistance exercise too early, before these plates have fully developed, the length of these long bones can be muted.  It is not excessive, meaning a 6'5" male will not become 5'11".

Be aware: For most women, due to very different levels of testosterone compared to respective men, it's unlikely that you'll become bulky, like you would see with a man.  But it is very possible to be on the muscular side, as there are many female athletes(like Serena Williams' in women's tennis) with resistance training and certain genetics that become relatively "bulky".

Myoclonus: Not having the whole story, this sounds like myoclonus, which can be seizures, can be part of a metabolic problem, can be part of a degenerative disease, can be the result of a viral illness, can be paraneoplastic syndrome- basically, it needs to be investigated.

Work hard: You gain muscle by subjecting your body to a load that it cannot handle, allow appropriate time and rest for your body to accomodate, and provide your body with the appropriate nutrition to support that activity. That translates into hard work in the gym while avoiding overtraining, getting enough sleep, and eating a well balanced diet. There are no safe, legal shortcuts.

i come down on the side of letting nature alone.  This means I am not one to encourage body building hormones or illegal supplements to achieve unnatural muscle mass.

But, that said, given your age you can naturally do a lot to get strong and to stay that way. High protein, low carbs, lots of good hydration and muscle training and lifting guided by a good trainer are key.

No answer!: To many age, hormonal, and exercise variables, including machines versus free weights, intensity, repititions, length of workout, etc.  However, the gains made early are neural gains, where you learn to contract muscle in synchrony and relax opposing muscle.  Muscle cell growth starts 2 & 1/2 weeks after starting a program and will continue for months!
